2023 DAYAA Manager/Coaching Information
I. Statement
The DAYAA Board voted to participate in a manager/coaches screening program starting with our 2011 season. Criminal background screening on managers/coaching applicants will be conducted by a screening committee in an effort to protect the children who participate in organized baseball/softball and related activities associated with DAYAA.
II. Definitions
DAYAA recognizes a manager/coach is any person who leads and instructs players at practices and/or games – or portions of practices and/or games – for Baseball and/or any Softball in-house or Travel team.
The manager/coaching application and background check is mandatory, no exceptions.
III. Procedure
The DAYAA Baseball and Softball screening committee consists of the Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer and is facilitated by the President. Only members of the screening committee will discretely review background check information to determine manager/coaching eligibility. All information is strictly confidential and will not be made public under any circumstances.
Based on the current Pennsylvania state law DAYAA is requiring that all volunteer managers/coaches obtain on their own and submit the following clearances to the screening committee: (Beginning August 25, 2015 all volunteers will be required to obtain certification every 60 months)
PA State Police Criminal Record Check (FREE for unpaid volunteers) – https://epatch.pa.gov/home
Child Abuse History Check (FREE for unpaid volunteers) – https://www.compass.state.pa.us/cwis/public/home
NOTE: All Manager and Coaching applications for Major, Minor, Tee Ball, Softball and Legion programs will be reviewed and approved/dis-approved by the Officers and Board of Directors. If you become a Manager or a Coach in any of our programs it is strongly recommended that you attend the monthly board meetings. All applicants and active coaches are required to immediately notify the screening committee following an arrest and/or conviction of any of the listed offenses in section 6344(c)(2) of the PA Child Protective Services Law.
